Manny Moka

This is Norman Landsberg, my Mahal, aka Manny Moka. He just came out with his 2nd CD, BROOKLY BATTERY, with his funk latin jazz band, consisting of Bay Area's jazz greats including a big band for 2 songs. Proud of him. BTW, I was the associate producer.  Norman trusts my ears. Check it out.

What a Treat!

Larry Vucovitch continues to inspire me. Last night, he performed with internationally acclaimed jazz singer, Jackie Ryan, at Piedmont Piano, and the piano/vocal duo was superb! Larry, mainstream jazz pianist, is very knowledgeable about the history of jazz so he injects stories about jazz greats and play their music, and it's like attending a master class and watching a concert at the same time! It's a double treat, I tell ya!

And Jackie Ryan, I've never seen anybody who sings with so much passion. She sings from the deepest core of her being. I told her that and she said, "There's no other way to do it."

What's Up!

Watching and listening to a 2012 performance of Cleveland Orchestra Anton Bruckner's Symphony No.4 in E-flat major led by Cleveland Musical Director Franz Welser-Most at the baroque Abbey of St. Florian in Austria (2014) on KQED, it's magnificent! Even the way the conductor held up his hands longer than usual to create silence before eventually, and, putting his hands down to end the piece, utterly put the whole audience in awe!

Now shifting to Day 4 of the NEW ORLEANS JAZZ FESTIVAL live on AXSTV till 7 pm tonight!

Live and Alive!!

Now Christina Aguilera is singing the beautiful song, Beautiful.

Indeed... And so is she!

Just found out Diana Krall is playing at the FOX Theatre tonight, too.

Inspiring... and Inspired!

Still jet lagged from my trip, I'm here at PPCo. to watch Larry Vucovich band tonight. And listening to his band rehearsed,  I'm inspired to make music again. I've been on a "standstill" with my music, thinking I'm not good enough, never will be, and on and on and on. But  today, I feel I can do this kind of music. I know I can. I just have to do it. REFRESH... RESTART. That's it.

Incidentally, I've just come across an interesting article about music and the brain.

A Side Story

Norman & I, somehow, found ourselves on the same page after the show. We were both hungry and both craving for Chinese noodles. Since by the time we'd get home it'd be past midnight, we weren't sure if we still wanted to continue on to eat out if there were any Chinese or any other Asian restaurants in the city open after midnight. We searched on-line but most restaurants closed at 10 or 11pm. Well, we decided to drive around the city and guess what we found open TILL 2 am, a THAI NOODLES Restaurant at Clement! Now is that luck or it that luck?! Really hit the spot... We went home full and happy.

Goodnight... Or rather, Good mornin'... Zzzzzzzzz.....
