I'm Baaaaack!

Hello, my dears! It's been awhile, I know. No, I didn't abandon you. On the contrary, I missed you all. I missed my blog and I miss blogging! But I was on the other side of the globe, in the Philippines and Israel. Yup! And such a hectic schedule, starting with my alma mater's, College of the Holy Spirit Centennial Celebration last Feb. 2-3 at schoolgrounds and the SMX Convention Center, respectively. Giving back to my alma mater, I'm very proud and  humbled to be one of the top 100 alumna awardees.

Then came the 2013 Philippine International Jazz Festival last Feb. 26 on Solo Piano Night Festival at the Ayala Museum in Makati with Tim Lyddon and Grammy-nominated, Eldar Djangirov. Just to perform with these guys is quite an honor!

Then, of course, my Mother's 97th birthday on March 9! Awesome! This is really why I come home every year for her birthday and family.

And, oh, yes, my pilgrimage to the Holy Land! This I have to talk about separately 'cause it's simply special! It's something so deep and personal, I don't even know where to begin my story. But I'll tell you, anyway, as it's simply too beautiful a story, a journey, not to share.

But I'm back home and back in the recording studio today with Norman. He's  recording with a big band for his next MANNY MOKA album. Wait, I gotta listen to this, it's a killer song - Manteca!

Great recording! We're here at  25th Street Studio in Oakland. Norman is doing 2 songs with the big band, the other song, Love for Sale. Another great song!

Great musicians like Wayne Wallace, Mary Fetig, Santana band members, Jeff Cressman and Bill Ortiz, and an all-star cast of players! Exciting, really! Most of them have left now. Norman is recording with a small band now, a modern jazz composition of his, Tattered Remnants, with interesting instrumentation - piano, bass, flute, trumpet, trombone, timbales and congas, no drums. Beautiful song, I wish I had written it! And just as I said it, Fred Catero, Grammy-nominated album engineer, asked,"Did you write that song?"
Wow, what an honor, I wish! Proud of you, Mahal.

I'm back, my friends. Missed you all.
